In 2009 14-year old Laura Dekker announced that she planned to sail around the world alone in her 38’ Jeanneau ketch, Guppy. Despite government agencies in her home country of Holland attempting to stop her and an enormous amount of negative public outcry, a year later she untied the dock lines and started to sail around the planet. In 2012 she completed her voyage and became the youngest person ever to sail around the world alone.
