Hello ASA friends and Family,

As we head into the second month of COVID-19 isolation we have learned quite a bit about ourselves. We really miss sailing. Our existence is greatly influenced by being out on the water and being away from what we love is trying. However, we understand that the sacrifices we make today will help in the future. Wherever you may be and whatever access you may have to your boat, the ocean, and sailing we hope that you remain vigilant and safe. If you are at home take a look at some of our free sailing content to help you pass the time. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing news from our great instructors that are local to you. We know that getting back to “normal” will take time but once we are free to interact in a less restrictive way we want you to know that local sailing options will be right around the corner. In no time at all we will be driving down to the dock and tossing the lines.

Most of us are sitting in front of our desks attempting to work while fantasizing about sailing. Staying at home is not so bad as long as we are somewhat distracted, right?

Let’s learn something about sailing instead. The American Sailing Association has a series of free videos with tips and instructions to help you work on your sailing education while we wait out the COVID-19 crisis.

Sailing Movies to Watch During Quarantine

The Caine Mutiny

Since we seem to have a little extra time on our hands why not binge watch some sailing movies? These may or may not be mainstream movies. The recurring theme is rooted in an adventure with sailing being the common thread between these films.

Ecology Tips for Sailors

An ASA sailing education has always allowed you to get out on the water safely and confidently. However, sailing and becoming a sailor also comes with responsibility, to be a steward for the oceans. Today, our waters face many challenges including vast plastic pollution, oil spills, runoff, storms, and depleted fisheries. Sailors have a unique obligation to be stewards of our oceans and waterways by minimizing our impact upon the environment both offshore and on, thereby preserving our waters for recreation and livelihood.

As we all stand pat and do our part to be responsible we want to give you some inspiration. This will pass and we will soon be back out on the water enjoying each other’s company.

For now, it’s okay to daydream and think about sailing. We’ll help.
