OUTSTANDING ASA INSTRUCTORS

All 2015 Outstanding Instructors received a personalized Weems & Plath Porthole Desk Clock

Each year ASA's Outstanding Instructors are selected solely as a result of student surveys. Based on the volume of student feedback received throughout the year, instructors are placed into one of three groups.

The award then goes to the top ten highest average scores in each group. Considering that there are over two thousand active ASA instructors, this places the Outstanding Instructors in the top 1½% of their peers for quality education as judged by their own customers.

PHONETIC ALPHABET QUIZ

In sailing, the phonetic alphabet is an important thing to know and know well. Since so much communication is heard through the poor fidelity of small radio speakers and takes place in sometimes loud windy conditions, it's vital to have a means to communicate clearly and precisely. These specifically chosen words used to represent the alphabet's letters service that goal. In the maritime world the NATO phonetic alphabet is most often used.

WHAT'S A FLOAT PLAN?

The American Sailing Association is all about getting out on the water and having a great time sailing, but we're also all about making sure people are safe in that pursuit. We've developed books and courses to that end and firmly believe that a solid educational foundation paves the path to total enjoyment of the sport. However, this activity involves the forces of Mother Nature and that can sometimes instigate a change in plans. For that reason, we strongly advocate the use of a "float plan."
