Hello ASA friends and Family,

The fog is beginning to lift on COVID-19 and we are encouraged by what we see. ASA schools are beginning to open up and as states ease restrictions, sailors are getting back out on the water. While we are not yet in calm waters, clear weather is on the horizon. The American Sailing Association wants to say thanks to all of the frontline workers that have made each and every one of our lives safer, better, and more convenient. ASA is launching #SailingSaysThanks in the coming weeks and this campaign will be our small effort to say thank you to every person working in essential positions during the pandemic.

Remain vigilant, be patient, and stay safe.

LEARN TO SAIL

Do you remember the first time you were on a sailboat? What captured your interest – was it the wind in the sails, the sound of the water or the feeling of the tiller in your hand? What captured your imagination? The idea of daysails with your friends, visiting faraway shores or escaping your life and seeing the world from your sailboat?

Sailing means different things to different people. At ASA we understand that learning to sail is just the beginning of a relationship with a lifestyle that is infectious. Where will sailing take you? We have a few ideas but how you view sailing is the most important.

ONLINE LEARNING

It’s no secret that the COVID-19 crisis has changed all of our lives forever and the sailing world is no different. From closed marinas to social distancing on sailboats, ASA has begun to re-examine what the new normal will look like once we are all allowed to go back to our daily routines. One thing that ASA did learn is that there is a need for online courses in the form of interactive online instruction.

Sailing Lake Erie with Erie Island Sailing School
LAKE EERIE
If you have never visited the Great Lakes region, do you really understand how large these lakes are? For a segment of the population that has no clue about the geography of the Great Lakes, they appear as a body of water somewhere between Canada and Chicago. That may sound like a generalization but until you get out on a boat in the Great Lakes it is hard to realize that multi-day charters are required if you want to see all of Lake Erie or Lake Michigan.
