Our comprehensive sailing courses are designed to get you the best possible results for your time and money. Our fun, entertaining, and qualified Instructors are American Sailing Association certified as well as US Coastguard Licensed Captains. You’ll find yourself with the knowledge, skills and confidence to pilot all types of sailing craft in no time.
Our wide selection of sailing activities gives you a variety of fun options. While our diverse fleet gives you the ability to sail on many different types of vessels including; serious full keel cruising boats, a gaff rigged New England Cat Boat, aggressive offshore racing sloops, and a variety of smaller sailing craft.
South Portland Sailing Center is your place to make friends, explore Casco Bay, and learn the skills that can sail you around the Bay or the world.
American Sailing Certifications Offered
Learn to skipper a 20' - 27' sloop-rigged keelboat by day, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards.
Learn to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered 25'-35' keelboat by day in moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather, safety and seamanship.
