Our commitment to teaching sets us apart. Over 400 students learn with us every year, making the Boston Sailing Center one of the top adult sailing schools in the country. Yet classes on the water are always small, so you’ll receive highly personalized instruction. Our staff shares a love of sailing – whether it’s a night sail with friends after work, a vacation cruise with family, or competing in local fleets and national championships. You’ll find this enthusiasm in every class we teach.
Our main courses are ASA 101 Basic Keelboat, ASA 103 Coastal Cruising, and ASA 104 Bareboat Cruising. In addition, we offer courses on racing during the summer and winter, ASA 105 Coastal Navigation, and ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising. If you have little to no sailing experience, ASA 101 Basic Keelboat is the place to start. Qualified sailors can sign on at any level of instruction or jump straight to a membership. We also offer series of courses packaged together in our Macro Programs for students looking to tailor their specific sailing goals.
Our facilities are unique – a Louisiana Riverboat berthed at Lewis Wharf on historic Boston Harbor. Just a short walk north of Faneuil Hall Marketplace, our floating classroom and clubhouse is an excellent venue for member and student events, post-sail socials to meet other sailors at the club, and other functions. We’re also close to a wide variety of historical sites, restaurants, and nighttime entertainment spots.
From the Riverboat, we enjoy unrestricted sailing along Boston’s historic waterfront and beyond, including day sails among the beautiful Boston Harbor islands, overnight trips to Marblehead and longer sails to destinations like Provincetown, Martha’s Vineyard and Newport.
After you take a course or if you already know how to sail, we have five levels of membership to keep you on the water all season long. As a member of the Boston Sailing Center, you’ll enjoy more time on the water than most boat owners – and at far less cost. Membership entitles you to unlimited sailing during the regular season with no additional cost for boat usage. The Center’s low member-to-boat ratio ensures optimal boat availability throughout the season. And our proven record of excellent boat maintenance is second to none.
One of the greatest assets of the Boston Sailing Center is the capable, knowledgeable staff. Founded in 1977, we employ upwards of 40 people during the high season, and the majority of the staff has been with us for over five years. However, the senior staff are quickly approaching 20-30 years! They have helped shape the Boston Sailing Center into a thriving community of local sailors.
