With over twenty years of sailing and teaching experience behind him, Steve Jennings founded the sailing school on the philosophy of teaching with “patience, not pressure.” We believe that Hands-On instruction is the best way to learn to sail, so the majority of class time is spent on the boats with personalized attention by expert sailors.

The Croton Sailing School was established in 1986 by Steve and Katherine Jennings. Steve Jennings grew up sailing and racing on the Hudson River and after spending time cruising the Caribbean and managing a sailing school in Virginia, he wanted to return to the most spectacular day-sailing he had yet discovered.

All our instructors are certified and personally trained by Steven Jennings. Instructors are trained to teach you with “patience, not pressure” and emphasize the benefits of Hands-On learning. We have instructors on staff certified by the ASA or US SAILING or possesses an USCG Captain’s license. Each also brings his or her own racing, cruising or daysailing experience into our standard class format, adding a personal dimension to the learning process. Instructors allow you to get “the feeling” of sailing so that your learning experience is a fun experience as well.
