Sail Olympia delivers a first-class adventure sailing vacation and education experience in the South Puget Sound.

The South Puget Sound is the undiscovered gem of an otherwise well-known cruising destination! Sail Olympia is based out of Swantown Marina in Olympia, WA.  At the Southern tip of the Puget Sound, we are just two hours north of Portland and one hour south of Seattle.  The winds and conditions are great for sailing all year round in this beautiful protected area.   We offer classes March – October.

All courses take place on ‘Meritage’  a 2017 Dufour 382 Grand Large.  She was named “2016 Boat of the Year” in Canadian Yachting and “Boat of the year 2016: Best Midsize Cruiser” by Cruising World.  Meritage is a fast, fun, beautiful and modern sailboat.  She has a full enclosure and hydronic heat to keep us warm, dry and comfy in the spring and fall seasons.  Her tall mast and performance sail package helps us make the most of the light winds common to the Puget Sound in the summer months.  Her top of the line electronics provide both safety and an exciting opportunity to learn. All overnight courses guarantee your own queen-bed stateroom on SV Meritage.

Sail Olympia offers ASA classes in 2-day, 4-day 103&104 Combo learn and cruise, 7 day 101-104 learn and cruise, custom and private classes. Earn your American Sailing Association ASA 101, 103 and 104 certifications while cruising the islands in the protected waters of the Puget Sound.  We also offer couples-only trips so you and your sailing partner can learn how to work together in an encouraging and supportive environment. Our classes are restricted to 2-4 students per class.  We will not have more students than we have cabins.

Your ”Learn and Cruise” classes will start with the ASA curriculum. We will use the ASA material as a baseline for our instruction so that you can be assured of receiving the best quality instruction available.  You can choose ASA 101, “Basic Keelboat Sailing”; ASA 103, Coastal Cruising; and ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising.  We will complete all of the ‘knowledge’ and ‘skills’ as required for each class.  By the end of the training series you may be ready to ‘bareboat charter’ a boat on your own. All training is completed on board.  On top of the extensive ASA curriculum you will receive days of practical experience, hands on demos, on-the-boat-lectures and explanations.   We take this experience a step farther and explore local culture, hiking and regional history.   You can’t truly experience the magic of the Pacific Northwest without also eating well.   We source our provisions with healthy, locally sourced, sustainable and organic products in a farm-to-table experience. Dietary restrictions are no problem for us.

We are teachers and sailers only.  Our focus is 100% on our students and guests in our sailing school and adventure travel, we do not have charter boats to rent, a sales team to sell boats, or club to join.
