Your first step towards setting sail on the open sea starts on the Saint Croix River in Hudson Wisconsin.The Saint Croix Sailing School offers adult ASA-101 Basic Keelboat certification courses throughout the beautiful midwestern summers.
The Saint Croix Sailing School (SCSS) is a non-profit community sailing center whose mission is to provide a place for all members of the community to enjoy the sport of sailing and joy of getting out on the water. Not only are you learning how to sail but you are supporting your local community non-profit sailing center. Your support allows SCSS to continue providing youth summer programs and Fall/Spring high school racing programs.
You will first set sail on “Lake Saint Croix”, a large open body of water south of Hudson, Wisconsin on the Saint Croix River. This is your first step to becoming a part of the vibrant sailing community that calls the Saint Croix River Valley home. The Saint Croix Sailing School keeps a fleet of J/22 keelboats. These responsive, easy to sail, 22’ keelboats are a great place to start your sailing adventure. Each class is three students, led by one of our experienced instructors who will ensure you will be comfortable at the helm in no time!
American Sailing Certifications Offered
Learn to skipper a 20' - 27' sloop-rigged keelboat by day, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards.
