The Athens Sailing Academy is located in Athens Greece. Our summer location is the beautiful Greek Island of Poros. We are the oldest ASA sailing school in Greece and have taught numerous students over the years how to sail safely and proficiently. The constant sunshine and easy winds make this an ideal location to learn how to sail.
Our instructors are all English speakers and have an intimate knowledge of the islands that you will sail around, while sailing with the Athens Sailing Academy.
The school runs courses from basic ASA101+ASA103 though to Off-shore ASA106 instruction. Our most popular course is our Yacht Crew certification, a week’s course where you learn to sail and learn about yacht systems. The Bare-boat skipper’s license course, ASA104+105 is our next most popular course.
Both courses are run over a week and include all teaching materials, you own cabin on the teaching yacht, a qualified instructor who will give you individual instruction throughout the week. The courses are geared for classroom instruction in the morning and afternoon sailing around Poros and the surrounding bays and islands.
Depending on the size of your course will determine what size of yacht you will use for the teaching yacht. We have French Jeanneau Yachts from 34ft to 49ft all built after 2018.
The course’s are very comprehensive, covering skills such as navigation, mechanical and electrical knowledge, sail trim and boat handling, that will include anchoring and how to Med Moor to the dock. You will live on the yacht for the week. You will have your own private cabin. In the evening you can go out and enjoy the many restaurants on the Island. Food and fuel is not included in the school rate.
For more advanced sailors we have ‘Mile-building’ cruises that take students to distant Greek islands, where no tourists go. The student will learn about sailing at night and be part of a watch, taking responsibility for the yacht while at sea. Each leg of the cruise is designed to offer different challenges for the prospective student to overcome. These cruises are typically run at the beginning and end of our sailing season.
