Virgin Islands Sailing Academy is an ASA affiliated sailing school. We teach and certify our students to ASA standards, and teach the entire series of ASA on the water classes, from beginner to advanced levels.
It costs less and is easier to start your sailing class in Red Hook, St. Thomas, USVI rather than the BVI. Once you arrive in St. Thomas you can take a 20 minute taxi to our teaching vessel instead of flying to Tortola or taking a ferry. Why go through the hassle of clearing in at the airport when you can clear in to the BVI on our teaching vessel as part of your class.
Most of our sailing classes include sailing in St. Thomas, St. John, and the BVI. Why not experience all three rather than just the BVI.
Classes are available December – April to fit almost anyone’s schedule.
All of our sailing classes are taught in a 3-9 day, live aboard approach, where students are totally immersed into learning to sail and cruise, and no hotels are required. Class size is kept small and is typically 3-4 students.
Visit exotic destinations in Tortola, Jost van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, St. John, and St. Thomas while taking beginner to intermediate level sailing classes. Visit St. Croix, Anegada, Vieques, and Culebra in advanced classes.
All of our instructors are ASA certified sailing instructors and have their US Coast Guard captain’s license, ensuring the finest instruction available.
Enjoy just the right mix of education and fun that most students are looking for. Although our classes emphasize educational content, when the day is done you will likely find yourself in an exotic location with time to explore and kick back.
Learn to sail on a 39 foot Pearson sloop rigged sailboat that is in superb condition, and equipped with the latest in electronics, and safety equipment.
Learn from instructors with multiple perspectives. We operate as Delmarva Sailing School on the Chesapeake Bay from May-October with the same great sailboat and instructors. We also teach Ocean Passage Making as we move our teaching vessel in the fall and the spring, to and from St. Thomas and the Chesapeake Bay, with a stop in Bermuda both ways.
By choosing Virgin Islands Sailing Academy for your sailing education you can realize your dream of learning to sail. Our alumni charter sailboats in destinations all over the world, and many have purchased their own sailboat.
Streamline your sailing education with our internally developed sailing curriculum that has proven effective in helping students quickly learn the information required to gain ASA certification, and cruise safely on their own.
