Are You Ready To Sail Greece?

By: American Sailing Vacations, Destinations, Flotillas

American Sailing has schools around the world, and our students explore the waters of virtually every destination accessible by a sailboat.  Greece is no different, and it warrants a closer look.

This June, American Sailing sailors will join a flotilla with Fairwinds Sailing Greece to explore the waters and destinations around Corfu and the west coast of Greece in the Ionian Sea.

Corfu is located in the Ionian Sea and is known for its lush vegetation, Venetian architecture, and stunning beaches. The flotilla will visit destinations well known to travelers but less inhabited by tourists. The itinerary is filled with anchorages at Syvota, Lakka, Gaios, and Parga (pictured above), and they are a taste of what Greece has to offer sailors willing to explore these lesser known but equally majestic destinations.

Where to Sail in Greece?

Greece has a vast coastline with thousands of islands and islets, making it a popular destination for sailing enthusiasts. These are some of the popular destinations sailors choose when sailing in Greece:

  • Santorini: Known for its picturesque cliffside villages and stunning sunsets, Santorini is a must-visit destination when sailing in Greece if you enjoy mingling with other tourists.
  • Mykonos: Known for its vibrant nightlife, Mykonos is also home to some of Greece’s most beautiful beaches and traditional Cycladic architecture. If you are into Instagram posts, this is your island.
  • Crete: The largest island in Greece, Crete offers a unique mix of ancient history, rugged landscapes, and beautiful beaches.
  • Hydra: A small island located near Athens, Hydra is known for its charming port town and traditional architecture.
  • Naxos: Known for its beautiful beaches, scenic hiking trails, and ancient temples, Naxos is a great destination for those who want to explore both the natural and cultural attractions of Greece.
  • Skiathos: Located in the Sporades archipelago, Skiathos is known for its crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and sandy beaches.
